For your first challenge group, it’s best to keep it basic and focus on engagement so participants can learn about the app and get into the habit of syncing their activity frequently. We recommend stressing wellness from the start. Prompt your users to think about healthy living and increased activity by posting articles and health tips in the content module or chat. With a high focus on engagement, you'll show your employees that you care, and that wellness is easy to incorporate into each day.

Challenge Goals in Streak and Target Modules

Setting your activity goal in streak and target challenge modules can be difficult if you have no prior knowledge of your group’s baseline activity. We suggest setting your goal slightly lower the first time around. Make your goal challenging enough to encourage people to get up and moving, but not too difficult so it is discouraging to your lower steppers! Not to worry, you’ll learn your group’s benchmarks after the first challenge you run.

The MoveSpring Customer Success Team has worked with a multitude of clients of varying sizes and goals, and we’ve found that the below two bundles of modules are the best to begin with. A successful challenge group is a mixture of both activity modules, and engagement modules.

Professional and Ultimate Plans

Group 1 Suggestion

Modules: Streak (metric: steps), Content, Quote
Title: Streak it to Me
Duration: 2 weeks
Content: General healthy lifestyle & any program materials
Goal: Between 5k-10k

Begin with a streak module, which challenges users to consistently hit or surpass the same activity metric each day of the challenge.

Start with a lower goal for your first challenge group. Until you better understand your group’s activity levels, you’ll want to avoid discouraging participation because the goal is too challenging.

Use the content module to post announcements throughout the challenge. Users will be focusing on their own activity each day, trying to hit the same goal each day - that can be tiring! Posting overall group metrics, like total steps taken as a group so far, will keep everyone motivated.

Group 2 Suggestion

Modules: Target (metric: steps), Content, Quote
Title: Streak it to Me
Duration: 2 weeks
Content: General healthy lifestyle & any program materials
Goal: Between 5k-10k pace

Pace is key - pick a lower daily pace to ensure completion. Then multiply your pace by the duration of the challenge group to get the overarching target goal.
Ex: I want my users to step about 7,000 steps a day for 21 days. My goal should be 7,000 x 21 = 147,000 is my target goal.

Use the content module to post motivational workouts to add to a daily walk or run. Five minute bursts of activity are a great way to start. Check out our Instagram for some great short workout examples!

Essentials Plan

Modules: Streak (metric: steps), Quote, Leaderboard
Title: Streak it to Me
Duration: 2 weeks
Goal: Between 5k-10k

Begin with an individual-based streak which challenges users to consistently hit or surpass the same activity metric each day of the challenge group.

Start with a lower goal for your first challenge group. Until you better understand your group’s activity levels, you’ll want to avoid discouraging participation because the goal is too challenging.

MoveSpring's quote module will post a new inspirational quote each day to motivate your group as they hit their goals.

Group 2 Suggestion

Modules: Target (metric: steps), Quote, Leaderboard
Title: Streak it to Me
Duration: 2 weeks
Goal: Between 5k-10k pace

Pace is key - pick a lower daily pace to ensure completion. Then multiply your pace by the duration of the challenge group to get the overarching target goal.
Ex: I want my users to step about 7,000 steps a day for 21 days. My goal should be 7,000 x 21 = 147,000 is my target goal.

Because users will be focusing on their personal target goal, a leaderboard module adds a group focus to keep people motivated and foster come friendly competition.
